Garden makeovers
Garden makeovers in Norwich
Norwich Landscapers carries out complete garden makeovers in Norwich and the surrounding villages, taking a whole garden from its current state to a finished lawn, patio, beds and boundaries in one planned job.

What a garden makeover is, and who it is for
A garden makeover is for the garden that needs more than one fix. The lawn is thin, the patio has sunk, the borders have run wild and the fence is leaning, and sorting each problem on its own would mean several trades, several visits and several rounds of mess. A makeover deals with the whole space at once, so the levels, paths and edges are planned together and everything finishes at the same height and on the same lines.
It suits people who have just moved into a house with a neglected garden, families whose needs have changed (more lawn while the children are small, more seating once they have grown), and anyone who has looked out of the back door for years thinking it could be so much better. Small courtyard gardens in the city get the same care as long rear gardens out in the villages.
Because the same team does the work from start to finish, with no subcontracting, you deal with one set of people and one plan. That plan is worked out with you in the garden, priced honestly and explained clearly before anything is dug up.

What a makeover can include
Every garden is different, so a makeover is made up from the parts your garden needs. Most include several of these.
-
A visit and a walk round
We look at levels, drainage, access, sun and shade, and talk through how you want to use the garden.
-
Clearing the old garden
Overgrowth, tired turf, failed paving and rubbish removed and taken away.
-
Groundwork and levels
Ground dug out, levelled and prepared so lawns, patios and paths sit at the right heights and shed water.
-
Patios and paths
New hard surfaces laid on a proper sub-base, in the materials you choose.
-
A new lawn
Fresh turf laid on prepared, level ground, with aftercare advice.
-
Beds and borders
Shaped borders, neat edging and raised sleeper beds ready for planting.
-
Fencing and gates
New or replacement boundaries and gates to finish and secure the space.
-
A tidy finish
The garden cleared and swept when the job is done.
What to think about before you book
-
Decide how you will use the garden
Write down what the garden is for: eating outside, children's play, growing vegetables, a dog run or somewhere quiet to sit. A layout that starts from how you live works better than one copied from a picture.
-
Notice the sun and the view
Note where the sun falls at the times you are most likely to be outside, and which part of the garden you look at from the kitchen. Seating usually belongs in the evening sun, and the best view deserves the best planting.
-
Check the way in
A makeover moves a lot of soil, stone and turf. If the only route into the garden is through the house or a narrow side passage, mention it early so the plan allows for barrows rather than machinery.
-
Set a budget and an order of priorities
If the budget will not stretch to everything at once, the work can be built in stages: groundwork, levels and drainage first, finishing touches later, so nothing has to be ripped out twice.
-
Check boundaries and permissions
Most garden work needs no planning permission, but a fence over two metres high, work near protected trees or changes in a conservation area can. Check who owns each boundary in your deeds before replacing a shared fence.
Good to know
-
The ground is where the money goes
Much of the cost of a good garden sits underground: digging out, sub-bases, levelling and drainage. It is the part you never see and the part that decides whether a patio stays flat and a lawn stays green.
-
New turf needs water
A new lawn needs regular watering for its first few weeks, more in warm or windy weather. We explain what to do and when to start mowing.
-
Gardens look raw at first
New planting takes a season or two to fill out, and freshly moved soil settles. A makeover finished in autumn usually looks its best the following summer.
-
Expect some disruption
There will be deliveries, bags of material and noise while the work goes on. We keep the site tidy each day and agree with you where materials are stored.

Questions
Garden makeover questions
Something else on your mind? Ask us and we will give you a straight answer.
How long does a garden makeover take?
It depends on the size of the garden and how much is changing. A small courtyard is a very different job from a long garden with a new patio, lawn and fence, so you get a realistic timescale with your quote.
Do I need to be at home while you work?
Not all the time. We need access to the garden and usually to an outside tap, and it helps if you are around at the start of the job and for the handover.
Can you work around plants I want to keep?
Yes. Tell us which trees, shrubs or features you want to keep and we will protect them and plan the new layout around them.
Do I need a garden designer first?
Not usually. We plan the layout with you in the garden, which is all most makeovers need. If you already have a designer's plan, we can price and build from it.
Can the work be done in stages?
Yes. Many people do the groundwork, levels and hard landscaping first and add planting or extra features later. We plan it so no stage has to be undone.
What happens to all the waste?
Clearing and removing green waste, soil, rubble and old materials is part of the job, so you are not left with piles to deal with afterwards.
